Public play spaces as cultural tools

Abstract

Public play spaces should be considered cultural devices and educational tools of great social importance, since through them codes, rules, philosophies and pedagogies are transmitted on different visions of conceiving childhood and play. In other words, the public play space is not neutral, but has a series of pedagogical paradigms that are implicit in an archetype of culture that molds different stereotypes of conduct and behavior of children. So, cultural management has a wide field o f a ction t o r ethink a nd propose new spaces. This article proposes to support a design of play spaces with more participatory methodologies.
