Cuban folk dance as a catalyst for intercultural processes in Guadalajara

Abstract

More than eight years ago in the city of Guadalajara, a dance movement around the Cuban popular folk dance started. The practice of the dance made important changes in the community in several levels: social, identity and in some cases religious.
This process originates thanks to the multiculturalism that characterizes Mexico, but also to the interculturality that the cultures originate in the same space; that is, the communication and the interaction that takes place among them. This results into a cultural transformation and the birth of hybrid cultures.
