Abstract

The review of the book Communities in Motion: Approaches to the Intangible Expression of Cultural Heritage highlights the relevance of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) as a fundamental axis for understanding the relationship between culture, society, and development. The author emphasises the importance of Bolfy Cottom’s prologue, which examines the theoretical, political, and legal evolution of ICH in Mexico, as well as the need to address it from anthropological, historical, and political-administrative perspectives. Likewise, the review stresses the importance of connecting communities with their heritage in order to ensure its preservation. The work also reflects on cultural and creative industries, their economic impact, and their relationship with social development in contexts of globalisation and crisis. Finally, the review points out the need for differentiated public policies to strengthen both small cultural initiatives and large corporations, promoting a balance between creativity, heritage, and sustainable development.
